but the meek will inherit the earth. forever.

"And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God." (Revelation 21:3 KJV)

God wants to have a continuing relationship with you and me! This is why Jesus said: "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly". The wonderful promise of the good news is that through Jesus Christ, we no longer have to be alienated from God, but can come close to him. This is what real living is. No matter who you are, or what situation you're in, God is calling you....

Furthermore when Jesus comes back as he promised, he will raise the dead, so that we can look forward to living with God here on the earth in His Kingdom forever! God's great plan for mankind and the earth is to "fill the earth with his glory as the waters cover the sea". When this happens then: "God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."

The Promise Jesus made

People sometimes say that you only need the New Testament and can forget the Old Testament, but Pete has shown very clearly that the gospel message is to be found right through the Bible, and we need to read all of God's Word to get the full picture. Take the promise Jesus made (in Matthew 5:5) "Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth". Jesus knew the Old Testament better than anyone, and he knew that God promised Abraham an inheritance on earth (Genesis 13:15) which Abraham has not yet received (see Acts 7:5). So, to keep His promises (which He always does) God will raise his faithful servant from the unconscious sleep of death (Hebrews 11:13) and give him an inheritance in the Kingdom that Jesus will establish when he returns. He will then raise the dead and give God's people their long-promised reward. As Jesus himself said, about Abraham: "Ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God" (Luke 13:28). That shows the way the two Testaments are interlinked in a most marvellous way. Do you know what the song says about a horse and carriage? "You can't have one without the other."
