The Narrow Door

It's amazing how you can turn a minor frustration into something positive. This morning I was going to work at the Whitley site, where the car parks are on the outside of the campus and you have to go through a security gate to get in. It was raining, so I had my umbrella, lunch box and my laptop case. I didn't have enough arms. I arrived at the gate which is a very narrow turnstile, and helped the lady in front of me who had got her handbag stuck in the turnstile. I then swiped my card and got stuck in the turnstile myself as there was simply not enough room to get me, the brolly and the laptop through! I reversed out and tried again to no avail. This of course put me in a bit of a bad mood and muttering, I stalked off to the security office to be let in as a visitor. Once I was in I thought about my frustrating experience, and realised how hard it is to get through the narrow gate - a picture Jesus gave us in scripture:
“Enter in by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter in by it. How narrow is the gate, and restricted is the way that leads to life! Few are those who find it. (Matthew 7:13-14 WEB)
The life of the follower of Christ is not easy. Sometime we need to loose some baggage that is holding us back. We need to keep our eyes firmly set on God's kingdom and not make the choices that will lead us away from God.
